RAINBOW BRIDGE

The Story of the Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent. Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It is with great sadness that we had to help Lacy over the Rainbow Bridge this
morning. We really have no idea how old she was or what her pedigree was although it was believed she was
8-10 yrs old when we got her. We had her just short of 3 yrs, getting her as a rescue Mar 19, 2007. She came from a puppy mill in western Michigan and weighed 36 lbs when originally rescued, but got up to about 88 lbs, chunky but that was ok with us. She was very shy and timid when we first got her. She wouldn't even take a treat and was afraid when we were going somewhere. She did learn that treats were a good thing and learned to love going bye-bye. She pushed her way in to get her share of lovin from us and always had a smile for us. Her crate was her safe place. She has been failing for most of the last year. Her walks got real short last summer. For the last month she has had difficulty going up and down the stairs but was managing. The last couple of days we have had to help her to stand up and help her up the stairs. She had lost about 15 lbs even being on high dose steroids. She has been staying in her crate most of the time and recently we could hardly coach her to come out. She was a sweetheart and we truly loved having her as part of our family. She loved to go on walks, car rides and go to the cabin. We were able to get her to the cabin for a short visit a couple of weeks ago. She went to her favorite spots and just smiled. We tried to take her for a short walk in the driveway last night but she kept heading for the car so we settled for a card ride for her. And today and she got to do her early morning bath rolling in the frost and scratching her back and then look at the house to make sure we were watching. She has looked so sad lately but still loved the attention.

We told her to watch for Sherman, he'd be waiting for her. And to go bounce and
play and have fun with no more pain.
