TRUEHEART BERNESE
MOUNTAIN DOGS

We are Bill & Roz Salbenblatt and live on 1 1/2 acres in Flushing, Michigan. We loved a rescue Great Pyrenees for about 16 years before she passed over the Rainbow Bridge. After her passing we knew we wanted another large dog. We considered another Great Pyrenees, the Golden Retriever, Newfoundland and Saint Bernard and then after much research decided on a Bernese Mountain Dog. We got our first Bernese Mountain Dog (Berner or BMD), Sadie, in 2005. We fell in love with the breed and wound up getting 2 more. Maggie came from, Mark Mohapp, a breeder in Wisconsin we had opportunity to meet and talk with at the National Specialty show in Frankenmuth, Michigan in 2006. Then Lacy came as a rescue in 2007 from the rescue chair of The Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Club. We found out Berners are truly like Potato Chips - you can't have just one. Our girls are a big part of our life and go everywhere with us. Our last two, Diamond and Ralphie, are from the litter we had in 2008.

They are house dogs and yes they do sleep with us on occasion.

We are members of the Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Club, joining shortly after we got Sadie. We enjoy all the outings the club has and being around the other members and their dogs. We have made many good friends through the club. Roz has been showing Diamond in AKC Conformation, working towards her Championship.

After much research on the breed and all of the health issues we decided we wanted to breed to help better the health and longevity of the breed. Our Breeding Philosophy page covers our thoughts in more depth. When trying to pick a Kennel Name we wanted something that truly portrays the temperament, loving personality and loyalty of the BMD.

If you are considering buying a Bernese Mountain Dog PLEASE do your research, there are many uneducated breeders around. It is in your best interest and the best interest of the Bernese Mountain Dog to have a full understanding of the breed and the best way to go about getting your pet from a reputable breeder.
